Mississippi is embarking on an unprecedented effort to map Broadband Internet availability in the State. The data represented on the map is compiled through a collaborative effort with the broadband providers in Mississippi and will be updated in April and October of each year.

Gov. Haley Barbour is committing almost $80 million in federal stimulus funds to examine the current network of broadband technology, devise a plan for expanding the technology and improving emergency communications for Mississippi.

  • Mapping broadband capabilities in the state, to serve as a blueprint for improving technology infrastructure
  • Creating a statewide mobile broadband network for First Responders in the law enforcement, fire, and healthcare fields
  • Starting the Mississippi Broadband Connect Coalition to develop a strategic plan for improving digital literacy and enabling greater adoption of broadband in the state
